Description:The rarest whale in the world has washed up on a shore in New Zealand.
The spade-toothed beaked whales were first identified by bone fragments found on a remote island in the Pacific in 1872.
Since then, the only evidence that the whales existed was two incomplete skulls found in New Zealand and Chile.
In 2010, a whale mother and her male offspring were found washed up on Opape Beach in Northern New Zealand.(1:01)
