New York City and San Francisco Boast Priciest Rents in the U.S.

U.S. apartment landlords raised rents by an average of 0.8% in the fourth quarter of 2013 to $1,083 a month, according to a new report by real-estate research firm Reis. Although that's below the prior quarter's 1% increase, it is a gain over the 0.6% rise seen in the last quarter of 2012. Reis found that New York City has the highest average rent in the country, followed by San Francisco and Fairfield County.
