Description:Accumulated snow has left much of the Long Island Expressway impassible, causing its closure Sunday from Exit 57 to Exit 73, according to the Suffolk County Police Department.
Officials are closing the 26-mile stretch from 7:00 a.m. until 9 p.m. in an effort to clear the drifts that stranded motorists Friday evening. It was initially thought that the LIE could reopen by 5 p.m., but that deadline had to be pushed back.(1:11)
