Charges Dropped After Man Spends 26 Years Behind Bars
Description:The new prosecutor in Lake County is dropping battery charges against a man who spent 20 years in prison, after being wrongfully convicted of rape.
After DNA evidence pointed away from Bennie Starks, he was cleared of charges that he raped a 69-year old woman in Waukegan in 1986.
Starks was freed on bond in 2006 but former Lake County prosecutor, Michael Waller, who convicted Starks, refused to clear him of battery charges in the same case.(1:33)
