California Kicks Off Holidays With Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony

Description:Governor Brown’s 81st annual Capitol Christmas tree lighting ceremony was a scaled back event compared to previous years, but no less meaningful. Governor Schwarzenegger’s final tree lighting in 2010 was hosted by Hollywood actor John O’Hurley, and featured entertainment from recording artist David Archuleta. This year’s ceremony had a much more local feel, with radio host Kitty O’Neal presiding. Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson also greeted the crowd before Governor Brown took to the stage. (1:30)
