Tuesday evening, at one of the most important political events of the year, First Lady Michelle Obama eschewed the more lady-likedresses she has worn to the State of the Union over the last six years and made a power play by wearing a serious but figure-flattering skirt suit.

The First Lady's fashion choices are always important -- she is a fashion-conscious woman and her wardrobe sets a tone for her husband's administration. And it is always interesting to see which designers she decides to publicly support at high-profile events. This skirt suit is from America's favorite designer Michael Kors, and was a part of his fall 2013 collection. (The jacket is still available on Ebay for $795.) She notably altered the design by removing the front thigh slit which, while less sexy for the viewers at home, was undoubtedly a good decision. It's a bit boring overall, but the large frontal zipper and the origami collar are intriguing. And distinctive.

So distinctive, in fact, that it took Twitter about two seconds to realize that Mrs. Obama was repeating an outfit from another famous political wife, Alicia Florrick of "The Good Wife." And while there is nothing to be ashamed of in copying this particular television character (a powerful lawyer and candidate for State's Attorney in Chicago), it is a bit strange that the First Lady would put herself in a position to be subjected to any side-by-side comparisons, as she was last night.
