Different highlighters demystified
So you go to the store and you're looking for a highlighter. Who doesn't want higher cheekbones? Who doesn't want to look lit from within?
But you get there and there are an endless amount of highlighters with different textures and shades.
So how do you choose one?
I've broken down 5 highlighters I have in my collection and what I use them for.
Highlighter Pen: Ah, the famous YSL Touche Eclat. This lightweight texture has the faintest amount of shimmer in it to naturally highlight your high points of your face. Don't expect to get any coverage with this product though (I know, it looks like a concealer), it's mainly for subtle highlighting purposes. Think, no makeup makeup, it's that natural.
Liquid highlighter: For those with normal to dry skin, adding a liquid highlighter to your foundation adds the most beautiful glow to your skin. Because you add just a tiny amount, your skin won't look like a discoball but will instead look like you've slept for days.
Cream highlighter: When you want to bump up the radiance without looking too fake (especially in sunlight), cream is the way to go. It's really easy to blend and the Benefit Watt's Up stick form makes it easy to apply.
Highlighter + Corrector Pen: For serious brightness under the eyes and down the center of your face, you can't go wrong with the MAC Prep + Prime Pens. I use the peachy shade to counteract my dark circles and it amazes me every time I use it. I believe Kim K's makeup artists use the yellow and peach shade for extra brightness under the eyes.
Powder highlighter: If you want to go all out, you have to try theBalm Mary-Lou Manizer. It's a blogger favorite for a reason, it gives a serious golden shimmery sheen that's gorgeous in pictures and especially when it catches the light.
