I found some great "recipes" for making my own cleaning products for pennies on the dollar. My favorite is the homemade dishwasher detergent that only costs 8 cents per load and works as well as the Cascade I typically buy (on sale with coupons, it's still hard to beat 8 cents per load!)

1 cup of Borax (found in the laundry aisle)

1 cup of baking soda

2 packets of lemonade Koolaide, unsweetened  (It can only be the lemonade flavor.  It's the citric acid that you're after.)

Use 2 Tbs. per load.

This project from a Stuff I Didn't Buy board comes along with the note "We all want to have the hottest new set. So instead of going out and spending a fortune on a new set, put a little lipstick on yours!" See the original blog here.

My pride and joy is my new pantry that my husband and son re-did for me. They removed the existing wire shelves, painted the inside using leftover paint, and installed new melamine shelving. Total cost less than $30. I can't imagine how much it would have cost to have someone do that for us. I found out how to do it ourselves from Pinterest. I bought new storage containers and everything is so neat and organized!- Jo Ann Davidson

I added ribbon trim to my existing lamp shades - cost $3. New lamp shades would have cost me at least $50 a piece for what I was looking for. Savings-$97. - Jo Ann Davidson

I spray painted a small chest I had and added crystal knobs bought in Hobby Lobby- total cost less than $20. - Jo Ann Davidson

I have found Pinterest to be quite a money saver by repurposing items I already have and also making my home more personal using items that mean something to me.- Jo Ann Davidson
