Where Neighbors Can Buy Abandoned Homes for $1

Abandoned homes and empty plots in neighborhoods can become nuisances for neighbors. They aren't only critter-attracting eyesores, but they can also be a safety concern. So what happens when nobody claims ownership of these properties and city officials can't maintain them?

A new law in Indiana gives neighbors the opportunity take over the property and secure it themselves. If the abandoned house or vacant plot is not bought at a tax sale, those living next to it can buy it for a mere dollar.
