Body found in Fresno County canal, deputies say. What they’re doing to identify victim

An irrigation worker discovered a body in a canal south of Fresno on Monday, the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office said.

The worker saw the body near Cherry and American avenues, just north of the Cherry Auction, about 8 a.m. Monday, spokesperson Tony Botti said.

The body showed signs it had been in the canal for some time, he said. No demographic information on the person was immediately available.

Deputies were looking into calls for service or cars found in canals without a driver inside for potential connections to the person pulled from the water, Botti said.
