Putting an egg on top can add a new flavor to your beefy burger. We recommend frying the egg and adding it to something like our Pecan & Mushroom Burger.

This isn't a shocking choice for a burger topping, but this classic never gets old. For something new, try it on your next turkey burger.

Onion

If you're looking for a kick of flavor, put some onion on your burger. Or, if you prefer, chop it up and grind it into the meat before grilling.

Mushrooms

We have yet to find something that mushrooms don't make better. Plus, they blend perfectly with the burger's staple topping: ketchup.

This year, for National Cheeseburger Day, Foursquare is teaming up with KRAFT to raise money for Feeding America. So if you're in the mood for Five Guys Burgers and Fries, be sure to check in at that location, and KRAFT will give the equivalent of what you spend to Feeding America.

But if you're more in the mood to stay home and whip up something there, we've got topping options to help you spice up your average burger. Toppings range from the traditional lettuce and tomato to cilantro and pesto. And be sure to experiment with your cheese toppings as well. American cheese won't blend perfectly with some of these toppings. While you're at the store, pick up a nice selection. Grab some Pepper Jack, Bleu, Mozzarella, Cheddar and more.

So if you're grilling tonight, Check out the slideshow above for your burger topping options!

And if you're still not inspired, check out Burger Perfection for even more ideas.
