McDonald's Plans to Sell Its Packaged Coffee In Stores
If you can't get enough of McDonald's coffee, we've got some great news. The fast food chain has announced plans to sell its packaged coffee in grocery stores nationwide next year. Since 2009, coffee sales at McDonald's have increased by 70 percent thanks to the introduction of specialty McCafe drinks.
Kraft Foods has jumped in to collaborate with McDonald's on this nationwide packaged coffee campaign. Kraft Foods will help McDonald's distribute both ground and whole bean McCafe coffee, in addition to single-cup pods for coffee machines. According to Statista, the average working American spends around $21.32 a week on coffee. So it comes as no surprise that companies want to get in on the market for at-home coffee brewing. Big chains like Dunkin Donuts and Starbucks already sell their own branded coffee throughout the country.
In a statement, Greg Watson, Senior Vice President of McDonald's U.S. Menu Innovation, explained, "There is a huge demand for at-home options. It was a natural, next step to provide customers with McCafe coffee to enjoy in their own home." The 12-ounce bags of McCafe coffee will be made with 100% Arabica beans and will come in a variety of flavors: Premium Roast, French Roast, Premium Roast Decaf, Breakfast Blend, Colombian Premium Roast, French Vanilla and Hazelnut and a French Roast Whole Bean. The packaged McCafe coffee will be available at supermarkets, drugstore chains and other vendors, but not at McDonald's own restaurants.
