This week, sisters Katherine and Sophie, founders of Georgetown Cupcake, are taking over KD Finds to let us in on what they can't live without. From snazzy oven mitts to an ingenious timer, discover the pair's five favorite things for baking.
1. Stainless Steel Rotary Flour Sifter
"Sifting your dry ingredients when baking is crucial – and having a good quality sifter can make your life much easier," Sophie shares. For light, lump-free flour, the sisters recommend this hand-crank flour sifter. Not only will it sit pretty on your kitchen shelf, with its vintage style and wooden knob handle, but this baking workhorse can handle up to five cups of flour.
Katherine chose these corers as one of her favorite baking items. "Besides coring fruits and vegetables, it is great to use for coring cupcakes so that you can fill them with dark fudge, caramel or any other of your favorite fillings," she tells us. The soft, anti-slip handles come in fun colors.
The sisters appreciate a simple cake stand for its versatility. "This is a classic way to serve cakes and cupcakes," says Sophie. "It can be used for displaying cupcakes at a casual brunch and also for a very formal dessert buffet." This cake stand from the Martha Stewart Collection works as a subtle accent piece for any affair.
"We love this triple timer because we always have multiple things cooking and baking in our kitchens at the same time – and this saves us the hassle of 'remembering' what time a pan needs to come out!" explains Katherine.
