Last year, it was reported that, according to the market research firm Information Resources, Americans buy nearly $500 million worth of Reese's and M&M's.

The market research firm also found that Americans spent $3.9 million on 3.5 billion chocolate bars, bags and boxes that were under 3.5 ounces (the perfect trick-or-treat size).

According to USA Today, Reese's are the most popular Halloween candy based on sales, followed by M&M's, Snickers, Hershey's and Kit Kats.

According to the National Confectioners Association, 35 million pounds of candy corn are produced each year. That's equal to 9 billion pieces, which is enough to circle the moon almost 21 times if laid end to end.

According to an infographic on History.com, the average American consumes 24 pounds of candy every year, which is equivalent to the weight of 2,336.5 Hershey Kisses.

Almost 90 million pounds of chocolate are sold during the week of Halloween, according to a Nielsen Newswire Report from 2009. To put that into perspective, around 65 million pounds of chocolate candy are sold during the week before Easter, and 48 million pounds of chocolate candy are sold the week before Valentine's Day.
