"We ordered a vegetarian box, and the photos... are of us making a Moroccan-Spiced Roasted Heirloom Cauliflower Salad with freekeh (a healthy whole grain similar to bulgur) and lemon crème fraîche dressing. It was one of those recipes where I mumble, 'Oh my gosh, it's so good' through my first bite," Sonja and Alex share.
"It's seriously easy. As bloggers who are constantly developing recipes, getting a box with recipes and ingredients in measured out quantities is like a big huge hug. It was so comforting to skip running to the store and to be able to follow a recipe step-by-step."
"It's fun. It might sound cliché, but without having to shop or pick a recipe, it freed us up to simply enjoy time cooking together. This would be a great experience gift for people who are incredibly busy but are interested in getting healthy meals on the table."
"Needless to say, we were sold on this concept, and are considering it for a few loved ones this holiday season..."
Eva reveals she is "endlessly obsessed" with the umami flavor. "When I signed up to do a Blue Apron box, I was beyond ecstatic when I saw these drumsticks listed as one of the recipe options," she shared.
"The umami flavor was out of this world, and was made even more delicious by the contrasting bit of sweetness from the final glazing of the chicken. The jasmine rice with the mushrooms & turnips was full of umami, too, just so wonderfully savory and earthy."
"There were some ingredients in here that I hadn’t heard of or used before, but am now going to immediately go out and purchase... so this was also a really nice way to get introduced into some new-to-me ingredients."
"If your schedule is very hectic but you still want to eat seasonally and spend time in the kitchen, or if you’re just looking to start cooking for yourself and don’t really know where to start, I highly recommend checking these guys out."
"As a self-proclaimed lazy cook, I’m all for cutting corners if it allows you to spend time at the stove instead of browsing Seamless Web," shares Phoebe.
"A few weeks ago, I finally tried Blue Apron and instead of doing my usual haul back and forth to Whole Foods, a beautifully packaged box of pre-portioned ingredients arrived on my doorstep with 3 recipes to try."
"I love baking vegetables this time of year, so the melted leeks and potatoes that provided the bed for my fish were right up my alley."
"They got braised in a foil packet, which made for easy cleanup (lazy cooks hate needless dirty dishes!), though the resulting sauce of garlic, butter and lemon zest would have been reason enough to lick the pan clean myself."
"I started dancing around (internally, mind you) as I pulled out a couple of beautiful pork chops, two lovely heads of little gem lettuce, crisp radishes and all kinds of other ingredients," Christiane recalls when she received her Blue Apron box.
"I loved that I still had control over the cooking, that I was given the same quality of ingredients that I would have purchased had I done the shopping myself and that everything was provided in the quantities needed so I won’t have to worry about throwing away extra this or that that goes bad before we have a chance to eat it."
"For me, removing the need for me to make a list, run out to the grocery store, run back out for something I forgot and keep track of all the ingredients so I didn’t use something on a different dish and then have to head back out for a third time was huge."
"The meal itself was delicious," shares Christiane. "The sauce is rich and decadent, the sandwich itself was awesome and the salad was the perfect thing to accompany it."
"I love boxes delivered to my door," reveals Natalie. "I love personalized (ahem, not ads) mail in general. It makes me super happy."
Within those boxes, "...you'll find EVERYTHING you need to make all of those recipes. Like, everything—meat, vegetables, dairy, seasonings... everything," says Natalie. "The recipes also use seasonal produce and well-sourced animal products."
"All three dishes were really good. Like, REALLY GOOD. They were creative, flavorful, and light. I love not feeling like I need a nap after I eat."
"This would be a great gift idea for someone who loves to cook or even someone who really wants to learn to cook. It takes away the less desirable parts of preparing meals (planning and shopping) and leaves you with the fun part—cooking!"
