The ophthalmologist is the son of former United States congressman Ron Paul and has served as a Senator for Kentucky since 2011. Rand followed Ron into the medical field first -- his father is also a doctor. Both attended Duke Medical School. Paul practiced medicine for a number of years before he was elected to the Senate in 2011. His politics are known to be based in Libertarian beliefs, though he is also supported by the Tea Party.

Paul suspended his campaign after a poor showing in the Iowa caucuses.
