New York Mets pitcher Jeurys Familia was arrested on a domestic violence charge at his New Jersey home on Monday, according to a complaint uncovered by the Bergen Record.

Last month, Familia had appeared in an ad campaign advocating against domestic violence.

The complaint includes scant details of the incident, but police said that Familia caused "bodily injury to another," and that the victim had a scratch to their chest and a bruised cheek. The victim's name was redacted in the public release of the complaint. The full document can be read here.

The 27-year-old All-Star was identified in the complaint as Jeurys F. Mojica, and charged with simple assault. He lives with his wife, Bianca, and their 1-year-old son.

"The matter was brought to our attention and we are monitoring the situation," the Mets said Tuesday. An MLB spokesperson gave a similar statement, according to Newsday's Jim Baumbach: "We are aware and investigating the facts."

Fort Lee Police Chief Keith Bendul declined to share details, according to The Record, other than saying police responded to a dispute at an apartment on Park Avenue shortly after 2 a.m. on Monday morning.

The Mets acquired infielder Jose Reyes last summer after he served a 52-game suspension under the MLB's domestic violence policy as a member of the Colorado Rockies. He was released by Colorado upon completing the suspension and New York signed him days later.

Under the league and players union's agreement, MLB commissioner Rob Manfred can place players accused of domestic violence on paid leave while assessing punishment. Players can be suspended before being charged.

Familia led the Major Leagues in saves during the 2016 regular season with 51, and made his first All-Star team. He was the losing pitcher in the Mets' lone playoff game against the San Francisco Giants.
