iPhone 7 Plus photos: The first images taken with Apple's new device have been revealed

Apple wowed the audience at its Sept. 7 media event when it unveiled the iPhone 7 Plus and its new camera. Two lenses — one wide angle, the other telephoto — function together as one camera with the added benefit of 2x optical zoom and optical image stabilization.

The iPhone 7 Plus-snapped photos Apple showcased at the event looked gorgeous, but now the camera's capabilities have been tested by the media. Sports Illustratedwas granted permission to publish photos taken by the iPhone 7 Plus, which neatly coincided with the opening weekend of the NFL. Take a look at some of the images below:

Apple CEO Tim Cook also revealed ESPN got in on the action at the U.S. Open.

Both sets of images certainly look clean, though SI's appear to suffer from a hint of overexposure, in this writer's humble opinion. None of the photos feature the blurred "bokeh" background effectApple touted in the iPhone 7 Plus launch.

Nevertheless, the iPhone 7 Plus' camera impresses at this early stage. It's going to be exciting to see the photography produced from these devices once the rest of the world gets their hands on them.
