Accused Jayme Closs kidnapper shaved his head so he would not leave hair behind at her home, authorities say

The 21-year-old man accused of abducting Wisconsin teen Jayme Closs and killing her parents shaved his head so he would not leave any hair behind, authorities say.

Jake Patterson made "great efforts to minimize his forensic footprint at the crime scene,” according to Barron County Sheriff Chris Fitzgerald.

Patterson was arrested on Thursday after Jayme, 13, miraculously escaped. She had been held in the town of Gordon for three months after her parents were found dead in their Barron home.

"Well, right now we're looking for 88 days of evidence," Fitzgerald said Saturday, according to CNN. "So, we're looking for receipts, where the suspect may have been over the last 88 days. Did he take things with her? Did she go with him to the store? Did he buy clothes for her? Did he buy food?"

Fitzgerald said it was a "very well-planned out attack," according to CNN. Patterson is being held on charges of kidnapping and two counts of murder.

Authorities believe that Patterson killed James and Denise Closs with a shotgun. They were found dead on Oct. 15, the same day that Jayme vanished.

Jayme told investigators that she was held at a remote cabin in Gordon. Patterson grew up in Gordon, a township of just 645 people. It is less than 70 miles from Barron.

Patterson graduated in 2015 from Northwood High School in nearby Minong. Northwood Superintendent Jean Serum said Patterson was a "quiet, good student who had wonderful friends and a supportive class," but admitted she did not recall much about him.

He worked for the Jennie-O turkey plant in Barron for one day in 2016 before he quit, saying he was moving out of the area. Investigators say they have not found a connection between Patterson and the Closs family.

Jayme's aunt posted on Facebook on Saturday that the teen had a "pretty good night's sleep."

"As a family we will get through all of the healing process Jayme has," Jennifer Smith wrote. "It will be a long road but we are family strong and we love this little girl so much."
