Hillary Clinton tweets report Russian campaign helped elect Trump

Hillary Clinton on Monday tweeted a link to the Washington Post’s breakdown of a US Senate-commissioned report regarding the Russian social media campaign designed to help now-President Trump win in 2016.

She also shared an excerpt, writing: “A Russian disinformation campaign ‘used every major social media platform to deliver words, images, and videos tailored to voters’ interests to help elect President Trump—and worked even harder to support him while in office.’”

That report, compiled by the Computational Propaganda Project at Oxford University and Graphika, and another generated by New Knowledge concluded that African American voters were specifically targeted.

The general purpose of the various campaigns was to villainize Hillary Clinton and elevate Trump.

New Knowledge notes that to do so, Russia’s Internet Research Agency often “leveraged pre-existing, legitimate grievances wherever they could.”
