Syracuse suspends fraternity as racist, anti-Semitic video found

A fraternity at Syracuse University has been suspended after racist anti-Semitic videos of members surfaced in the student newspaper.

“I solemnly swear to always have hatred in my heart for n-----rs, sp*cs and most importantly the f--kin’ k-kes,” one young man in Theta Tau says during a sketch published by the Daily Orange.

The newspaper said that the videos, not originally released to the public, were posted on a secret Facebook group for the fraternity, which caters to engineering students at the upstate school.

Syracuse’s chancellor Ken Syverud said that the Theta Tau chapter was suspended and that he was appalled by the videos that “include words and behaviors that are extremely racist, anti-semitic, homophobic, sexist, and hostile to people with disabilities.”

Excerpts highlighted by the Daily Orange include one member saying “You f--kin’ k-kes, get in the f--kin’ showers” and another telling someone “he’s drooling out of his mouth because he’s retarded in a wheelchair.”

Syverud said that the school’s Department of Public Safety was investigating, and the university held a public forum on Wednesday night where students shared their outrage.

Theta Tau’s videos, which come after national attention to racist incidents at fraternities across the country in recent years, emerged after three other frats have already been suspended at Syracuse this school year.

Sigma Alpha Mu, Alpha Epsilon Pi and Delta Tau Delta were all suspended for problems involving new members and hazing, according to the Daily Orange.
