State Department hasn't spent any of the $120 million to fight Russian meddling

Around $120 million is just laying around. No one is using these funds, which were allocated to fight Russian interference, according to the New York Times.

The State Department was allocated these funds in 2016 to counter foreign efforts to meddle in elections or sow distrust in democracy.

Secretary of State Rex Tillerson has seemed skeptical about whether the United States is even capable of doing anything to counter the Russian threat. “If it’s their intention to interfere, they’re going to find ways to do that,” he said in an interview last month with Fox News.

Reportedly, the timing of using the funds has been off, with one instance where Tillerson took seven months to decide if he should use some of the funding, but by then the fiscal year was over and the request was denied.

According to the Times, Intelligence Chiefs warn that Russians may be plotting to interfere in midterm elections.

In an interview with NBC’S Megyn Kelly, Russian President Vladimir Putin said he would “never, never” extradite accused hackers to the United States.
