Jeff Sessions’ reference to ‘Anglo-American heritage’ raises eyebrows

Attorney General Jeff Sessions on Monday referenced “Anglo-American heritage” and raised some eyebrows.

During an address to the National Sheriff’s Association, Sessions commented that the law enforcers are a “critical part of the Anglo-American heritage of law enforcement.”

“We must never erode this historic office,” he continued.

“The Anglo-American comment may have been unscripted as it did not appear in a copy of his prepared remarks published by the Department of Justice,” notes Newsweek.

The sentence in the transcript “as prepared for delivery” reads, “The Sheriff is a critical part of our legal heritage.”

Many asserted that the Anglo-American remark is evidence of Sessions’ racial bias.

Others noted that the reference is long-established and nothing more than an acknowledgment of shared American and British legal traditions.
