Trump says 'DACA is probably dead' blames Democrats

President Trump took another shot at Democrats on Sunday over the ongoing Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA)-related negotiations.

“DACA is probably dead because the Democrats don’t really want it, they just want to talk and take desperately needed money away from our Military,” Trump tweeted.

Trump announced in September that his administration would end the protections offered under DACA to the estimated 700,000 “dreamers,” undocumented immigrants brought into the U.S. as children.

The Trump administration gave Congress until March 5 to come up with an alternative legislative solution.

A bipartisan group of lawmakers had been working on a deal but as NBC News reports, “it’s not clear where negotiations stand after Trump allegedly made vulgar and derisive comments about accepting immigrants from ‘shithole countries’ during a meeting Thursday with senators at the White House.”

Trump has insisted that the US-Mexico border wall funding be part of the DACA deal.

Meanwhile, CNN reported Sunday that the Trump administration has “resumed receiving renewal applications for ‘Dreamers’” under the DACA program “following a federal court order blocking the administration from ending the program.”
