Melania Trump announces new White House staff additions

Melania Trump announced new additions to her White House staff on Thursday, signaling a growing team backing the first lady's East Wing presence.

In one of the more built out hiring announcements for the first lady to date, she has brought on a director of policy, director of operations and communications coordinator.

"I am very excited to add these quality professionals to my already stellar team," Melania Trump said in a statement. "Each person filling their respective and vital role has shown true professionalism in their chosen career, and I am confident they will enhance my work on behalf of children everywhere, while helping me further expand my role as First Lady of the United States."

Assuming the position of director of policy is Reagan Thompson, who previously served as both a former staffer for the National Security Council and in the then-congressional office of CIA director Mike Pompeo. Thompson will oversee Trump's "policies and initiatives," -- which have in the past ranged from the opioid crisis to child bullying.

Justin Caporale will fill the role as director of operations after working on outreach and advance with the Trump campaign. Caporale will reportedly manage daily logistics, focus on events and plan foreign travel.

Annie LeHardy will move from the West Wing press office into her role with the first lady as communications coordinator.

The Slovenian native and former model has often been present with President Donald Trump on trips both foreign and domestic, but maintained a minimal profile where policy areas were concerned during her family's first year in the White House.
