Russian lawmakers are dismissing Michael Flynn's guilty plea

Two prominent Russian lawmakers are reportedly dismissing the guilty plea of President Trump’s former national security adviser Michael Flynn.

According to CNN, Russian Senator Franz Klintsevich said Flynn is just a scapegoat in a larger attack aimed at President Trump.

"The former US national security adviser Michael Flynn was just the one they caught. The main object of this attack is, of course, Donald Trump," Klintsevich reportedly said to Russian news outlet Ria Novosti.

Senator Alexey Pushkov also tweeted about Flynn's plea, according to CNN, which he says is nothing of importance.

"In the United States they continue to inflate a 'sack of smoke ,'" Pushkov tweeted. "With Manafort and Papadopoulos, nothing came out. Now they are hyping up the no less empty 'Flynn case.'"

Flynn pleaded guilty Friday to lying to the FBI about a meeting he had with the Russian ambassador to the US.

Also on Friday, it was reported that Flynn is cooperating with Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into Russian election interference and could even testify against the President.

Flynn is the first person inside the Trump White House to be reached by Mueller’s probe.
