Pro-life congressman reportedly asked his mistress to get an abortion
Text messages obtained by the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette between Congressman Tim Murphy and Shannon Edwards, a forensic psychologist he had an affair with, reportedly show he urged her to have an abortion.
Murphy, a Pennsylvania Republican is a member of the House Pro-Life Caucus and has been endorsed by other anti-abortion groups.
In the texts, Edwards asked about his pro-life Facebook posts and wrote, “You had no issue asking me to abort our unborn child just last week.”
A message coming from the Congressman’s cell phone number said about the posts, “I've never written them. Staff does them. I read them and winced.”
Though the pregnancy scare turned out to be unfounded, Murphy has admitted to the extramarital affair.
Murphy is one of the co-sponsors of a bill aiming to block women from getting abortions after 20 weeks.
