12-year-old boy who transitioned to female changes his mind 2 years later

At the age of 12, Patrick Mitchell decided to transition into a female, only to change his mind two years later.

Uncomfortable in his own skin, the Australian school boy begged his mother to allow him to take estrogen hormones after he was diagnosed with gender dysphoria -- a condition where a person feels distressed because there is a mismatch between their biological sex and the gender they identify with.

“You wish you could just change everything about you, you just see any girl and you say I'd kill to be like that”, Mitchell reportedly told 60 Minutes.

After being advised by professionals who suggested it was the right choice, Mitchell's mother supported his decision and provided permission for the minor to be able to begin his transition into becoming female.

Mitchell began growing his hair long and taking hormones in efforts to address the condition he said put him at odds with his biological sex and identity. But years two later, he started to question whether or not he made the right decision.

“I began to realize I was actually comfortable in my body. Every day I just felt better,” Mitchell told Now To Love.

So he turned to his mother and explained that he wanted to transition back into a boy.

“He looked me in the eye and said ‘I'm just not sure that I am a girl,’” his mother said.

Now, in a bid to return to the boy he was two years ago, Mitchell, who began to develop breasts as a result of the hormones he was administered, will have to undergo surgery to remove the skin around his chest and return to who he was two years ago.
