Police officer under fire for alleged 'love this' post regarding fatal crash in Charlottesville

A Springfield, Massachusetts police officer is under fire, and possibly investigation, for his alleged Facebook post regarding those harmed by a driver who plowed his car into a group of protesters in Charlottesville, Virginia on Saturday.

MassLive reports that Conrad Lariviere wrote not long after the incident, "Hahahaha love this, maybe people shouldn't block roadways."

He reportedly continued, "How do you know he was a Nazi scumbag? Stop being part of the problem."

The comments were reported to the Springfield Police Department.

John Barbieri, the city's police commissioner, said in a statement, "If in fact this post did originate from an officer employed with the Springfield Police Department, this matter with be reviewed by the Community Police Hearings Board for further action."

Lariviere spoke with MassLive, taking ownership of the comments and offering an apology of sorts.

He said, in part, "Never would I want someone to get murdered. I am not a racist and don't believe in what any of those protesters are doing."

Violence erupted in Charlottesville as white supremacists attending the 'Unite the Right' rally clashed with counter-protesters, a skirmish that ultimately claimed three lives, reports the Los Angeles Times.

Two state troopers died in a nearby helicopter crash, and one woman was fatally injured when the car sped into a crowd of those gathered in opposition.
