Aaron Hernandez reportedly blocked prison wall before committing suicide, new details reveal

A police investigation into the former NFL player's apparent suicide shines light on new details surrounding Hernandez's prison death.

According to a death investigation from Massachusetts State Police and the Worcester County district attorney, Hernandez used cardboard to stuff the tracks of his prison cell door -- a tactic used to slow the pace at which guards could aide Hernandez after he hanged himself.

Officials also say Hernandez used shampoo to make the floor of his cell slippery, another tactic to prevent prison officials from easily rescuing him. Hernandez was found hanged naked by his bedsheet in his cell around 3 a.m.

The report also confirms a previously reported detail that Hernandez had used his own blood to mark the walls with drawings and his forehead with the note "John 3:16" -- referring to the Bible passage that states, "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life."

The new report also makes clear that Hernandez's cell was locked with him inside at 8 p.m., and he was later seen alive at 1 a.m. before he was discovered at 3 a.m.

Three notes were found in Hernandez's prison cell when he was discovered after having hanged himself last week, and sources TMZ Sports cites as "familiar with the investigation" say those notes were addressed to his fiancee, his daughter and his attorney.

The lawyer for inmate Kyle Kennedy -- a fellow inmate of Hernandez's who has been referred to as his "prison lover" -- held a press conference on Wednesday, during which he revealed that his client and Hernandez knew each other before prison and reaffirmed Kennedy's desire to obtain a note and alleged $47,000 watch left to Kennedy before Hernandez's death.
