Poll: More Americans trust Trump's White House over media to tell the truth

Who do you trust more to tell the truth – Trump's White House or the national political media?

Based on a poll conducted with around 2,000 adults between April 25 and 26 by Morning Consult, more Americans would say the former.

In fact, 37 percent of the participants sided with Trump's White House over 29 percent for the media.

According to the survey, "Only 38 percent said they have 'a lot' or 'some' trust in the media covering Trump's White House fairly, compared with about half (52 percent) who said they didn't have much or none at all. Almost half (48 percent) also said they thought the media has been harder on Trump than other past presidential administrations."

Expectedly, the divide was significant along party lines. 67% of Republicans compared to 36% of Democrats "say the media was out of touch with everyday Americans," notes Morning Consult.

Another recent poll conducted by Monmouth University sheds some light on how the president's 'fake news' allegations and overall skepticism of the press have impacted Americans' trust in information offered by both him and news organizations.

Monmouth's poll "pitted" Trump against only three popular outlets—ABC News, Fox News, and MSNBC.

Overall, those surveyed found the networks' reporting to be more reliable, even though they believe all mentioned dip into 'fake news' territory on occasion.

Meanwhile, Trump continues to slam various media outlets on Twitter. His most recent tweet mentioning 'fake news' noted, "Don't let the fake media tell you that I have changed my position on the WALL. It will get built and help stop drugs, human trafficking etc."
