NYPD: Woman saved by purse when shot at point-blank range during carjacking

A woman's purse became her unlikely hero recently, when it stopped a bullet from wounding her during a violent carjacking.

The New York Police Department says a 39-year-old victim was loading luggage into her vehicle at 4 a.m. on Wednesday morning in Brooklyn when a 52-year-old man held her at gunpoint and demanded her car keys.

The woman fought back, at which point the man fired a round at her at point-blank range. The woman was saved from the gun shot, though, when the bullet was stopped by her purse and wallet.

The woman was then pistol-whipped as the assailant drove off in her vehicle. Police later tracked down the man and he was then held on multiple charges and $25,000 bail.
