President Trump congratulated the "military men and women" who carried out what he called "the Syria attack" in a Saturday morning tweet days after launching 59 Tomahawk cruise missiles at a Syrian airbase.

"Congratulations to our great military men and women for representing the United States, and the world, so well in the Syria attack," tweeted the president on Saturday morning.

Some Twitter users quickly pointed out the unusual wording of the president's statement. "Consider rephrasing this," replied one user.

In the wake of the president's first major military action, Trump has received both praise and criticism for how he responded to Tuesday's chemical weapon attack carried out against the Syrian people.

Sen. John McCain praised Trump's action, saying there could be a chance for the president to "reboot with the American people, at least as far as national security is concerned."

But some of the president's most ardent supporters say they feel betrayed by Trump's Middle East intervention.

Ann Coulter, author of the book "In Trump We Trust," ripped the president for flipping on his previous anti-intervention stance on Syria and President Bashar al-Assad saying, "He told us he would be the president of America, not 'the world.'"

Conservative radio host and FOX News contributor Laura Ingraham also expressed outrage over the Syrian attack. "Missiles flying. Rubio's happy. McCain ecstatic. Hillary's on board. A complete policy change in 48 hrs."

"I'm officially OFF the Trump train," tweeted popular Trump backing YouTuber and Infowars writer Paul Joseph Watson.
