Tomi Lahren attacks Iranian filmmaker who won Oscar

Updated

Conservative political commentator Tomi Lahren took to Twitter Sunday with a few remarks regarding a message an Iranian filmmaker had read on his behalf at the Academy Awards.

Director Asghar Farhadi won his second Oscar for Best Foreign Film for "The Salesman" at the 2017 Oscars. But Farhadi chose not to attend the ceremony in protest to President Trump's travel ban placed upon people from seven Muslim-majority countries, including Iran.

Farhadi instead opted to have Iranian-American astronaut Anousheh Ansari read a politically-charged statement written on his behalf, denouncing the "inhumane law that bans entry of immigrants to the U.S."

The statement did not sit well some conservatives in favor of Trump's ban -- including right-wing commentator Tomi Lahren.

She snapped back at the response on Twitter, accusing the Obama administration of cozying up to Iran.

Some criticized Lahren for the strong reaction.

While the comments about the Iranian filmmaker were some of her most pointed, they were far from the only aspect of the Oscars that Lahren criticized on Sunday night.

She mocked the Hollywood insiders over their opposition to the travel ban, voiced by more than one member of the audience that night, comparing the stringent ruled to those Oscar party attendees face.

She also handed out her own "Snowflake Awards" to Michael Moore and Meryl Streep.
