Baylor University women's basketball coach Kim Mulkey blasts sexual assault scandal

Baylor women's basketball coach Kim Mulkey gave an emotional speech on Saturday defending the Waco, Texas, university despite the fact that the campus is currently involved in an ongoing sexual assault scandal.

Mulkey clinched her 500th career win on Saturday and snagged a microphone after the big game to address the crowd and talk about the widespread allegations and reports of sexual assaults at Baylor, many of them by football players.

She suggested that "If somebody is around you and they ever say 'I will never send my daughter to Baylor,' you knock them right in the face." The comment received tons of cheers from the crowd.

She continued:

"Because these kids are on this campus. I work here. My daughter went to school here. And it's the best damn school in America."

Mulkey was also supposed to be talking about her outgoing senior athletes during her speech, but she took a different note throughout. Her comments have been largely met with criticism as many pointed out that the storied coach is missing a bigger message -- that violence on campus is not okay.

At least 31 Baylor football players allegedly committed 52 acts of rape over 3 years, beginning in 2015. At least 125 Baylor students have reported being sexually assaulted in that period, apart from the football program, sources have said.

Mulkey addressed her comments in a press conference after the game and said that people just "don't know what they're talking about" and she's "tired of hearing it" because it's a "great institution." Listen to her full remarks below:
