Trump pledges to personally bring border wall price tag 'WAY DOWN!'

President Donald Trump said on Saturday that while he's not currently "involved in the design or negotiations" of the proposed wall on the Mexican-American border, once he jumps in he will personally bring the cost "WAY DOWN!"

"I am reading that the great border WALL will cost more than the government originally thought," the president said in a tweet early on Saturday.

"But I have not gotten involved in the design or negotiations yet," he continued.

It's possible Trump is referring to an exclusive report from Reuters that says the wall could cost as much as $21.6 billion, and take over three years to build, according to a U.S. Department of Homeland Security internal report.

That price tag would come in much higher than a $12-billion figure cited by Trump in his campaign and estimates as high as $15 billion from Republican House Speaker Paul Ryan and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell.

Trump said Saturday that he will bring cost down similarly to how he encouraged smaller budgets for major government aircraft projects. "Just like with the F-35 FighterJet or the Air Force One Program, price will come WAY DOWN!" said Trump.

The president tweeted back in December that the Air Force One program was too expense and that he wanted to "Cancel order!" A few weeks later, the CEO of Boeing promised Trump to build the two Air Force One jets for under $4 billion.

Time will tell if Trump can use his art of the deal to bring the wall's reportedly $21.6 billion price tag down. No word yet on how much the "big beautiful door" will potentially add to the cost.

Trump maintains taxpayers' initial outlay will be reimbursed by Mexico. Mexican leaders have repeatedly said that will not happen, including in an expletive-filled tweet sent after Trump's latest comments.
