Dashcam video shows snowplow getting run off the road by passing truck

Highlighting the additional driving hazards involved in the winter season, the Utah Department of Transportation has released a dramatic video showing a snowplow getting hit by a passing truck.

A Facebook post by the department noted, "On Thursday January 12, 2017, Veteran plow driver Terry Jacobson was run off the road by a semi truck while plowing US Route 6 in Spanish Fork Canyon. The semi truck driver attempted to pass the plow on the right and clipped his plow."

The post further stated, "The semi truck driver did stop and cooperated with police. He was cited for improper passing and leaving his lane. The county attorney will screen the case for criminal charges."

While Jacobson suffered multiple injuries, fortunately, he is expected to recover.

In light of the accident, the department noted, "The incident serves as a reminder of the need to give plows plenty of room so they can clear the roads safely. When driving near plows, give them at least 200 feet of space, never try and pass them, and don't cut in front of them."
