9 people charged after toddler is found locked in box

Three people in northern Indiana have been charged with neglect after a 3-year-old girl was found locked inside a wooden box.

According to WSBT-TV, officers with the Pulaski County Sheriff's Department found a girl locked inside a plywood box in the living room while searching a home in North Judson.

Three people face child abuse charges -- Donna Short, 42; Christopher Short, 25; and Patricia Meeks, 18.

Six others, including four teenagers, have been charged with failure to report child abuse.

Officials are not yet sure why the girl was locked in the box.

She and five juveniles were released to the custody of the Indiana Department of Child Services.
