An Alabama high school teacher, plagued by allegations that he had sexual relations with a student, was found dead of a bullet wound over the weekend, according to reports.

His death came days after Mothershed, 27, was placed on paid administrative leave while police investigated the report that he engaged in a "sex act or deviant sexual intercourse with a student."

According to the police report, the act took place at the high school and a 16-year-old female filed a report with police.

Coroner Carlton Utley told WHNT that due to the lack of evidence at the scene, he has concluded Mothershed died from the accidental discharging of a firearm.

"Our focus now shifts to our students and we ask for your prayers for our students, our faculty and Mr. Mothershed's family," Superintendent Keith Lankford said.

The married father had reportedly taught at the school for three years.
