The 14-year-old boy believed responsible for the shooting has been taken into police custody. Carriger said detectives are interviewing dozens of young witnesses.

One witness told FOX 13 the boys were going to engage in a fistfight, but one pulled a gun on the other. The witness said the suspect fired one shot, waited for the victim to fall to the ground and fired another shot. He said the shooter then fell to the ground and began to cry.

The school was placed on lockdown as police worked to secure the scene. The lockdown has since been lifted.

Police said there is no ongoing threat at the school and they are not looking for other suspects.
