Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump campaign chiefs trade barbs, reveal debate prep details

Campaign managers for both White House candidates laid out their expectations on TODAY ahead of the long-awaited match-up on Monday night during the first presidential debate.

Hillary Clinton's campaign manager said he wants to be sure the former secretary of state and her rival, Donald Trump, are judged fairly and by the same criteria.

"What we don't want to have is some kind of double standard where Donald Trump can get the 'most improved award,' but Hillary Clinton is getting judged on the fine points of policy," Robby Mook told TODAY anchors.

But Trump campaign manager Kellyanne Conway, in a separate appearance, accused Mook of trying to lower public hopes for his candidate.

"The Clinton campaign has clearly been gaming the refs, has been talking to the media for a week now saying, 'It's your job to makes sure that Donald Trump is fact checked in real time,'" she said. "I'm just surprised that a campaign manager would try to lower expectations that dramatically for his own candidate."

New York's Hofstra University Monday will host Monday evening's debate, which begins at 9 pm ET. Clinton and Trump will face off at two more debates in October.
