Prince William and Kate Middleton had the most awkward entrance at the BAFTAs

Ever do something that's so awkward you still cringe when you think back to it? Well, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge had one of those moments at the British Academy Film Awards (BAFTAs) on Sunday, February 10th. Like the professionals they are, however, the two of them were caught on camera laughing it off.

As Prince William and Duchess Kate made their way off the red carpet and to their seats at the event, the people in the room immediately stood up in their honor. There was no speaking, no applause, no music even — just dead silence (and the sound of cameras flashing) for a full 30-40 seconds while they walked.

As they took their seats, Kate quietly laughed and said, "It's so quiet," to the woman next to her. William looked at the woman next to him and they laughed as well.

You can watch the moment in the video above. The awkwardness starts at the 30 second mark and goes on for what feels like forever.

This is the third year in a row that William and Kate have attended the BAFTAs. In fact, Prince William has been the president of the British Academy of Film and Television Arts since 2010. This year, he presented the BAFTA Fellowship award to film editor Thelma Schoonmaker.

Kate Middleton also made headlines on Sunday night for her beautiful one-shouldered white Alexander McQueen gown worn with diamond drop earrings that once belonged to Princess Diana. Her whole look was actually said to be inspired by the late Princess and mother to William. You can see more of Kate's best BAFTA looks in the gallery above.
