NYFW: Coach Spring 2018 takes the city with a homage to Keith Haring

Updated

Coach is no stranger to the city.

With an elaborate set to mimic the sparkly and risque-nature of a New York City alleyway, the American brand put their Spring 2018 collection to the test in front of a star-studded crowd, including James Franco, Emma Roberts and Selena Gomez. Gomez and Franco, who was just announced as the face of the designer's fragrance, chatted before the lights dimmed.

Silver glitter littered the runway, as props included towering Manhattan rooftops and antique cars. This vintage mirage alludes to the dreams (and the danger) that comes with a city like New York.

As far as vintage looks go, leather biker jackets, silk gowns and pinstripe suits helped replicate the city's 80s culture. Male models sported satin pants, too, as well as cowboy boots with backpacks and cross bodies slung over their shoulders.

It's all about the attitude, the powerhouse said.

The ready-to-wear collection also included classic back-to-school elements, such as varsity pullovers and jackets. Even some leather bombers were so perfectly designed to replicate these vintage looks, down to the subtle varsity stripes on the sleeves.

Said designer Stuart Vevers to Women's Wear Daily, "I used the creativity and optimism of New York as my starting point." For Vevers, the rest of the show was a homage to the late artist Keith Haring's take on New York City.

Working with the Keith Haring Foundation, Vevers was inspired by the whimsical artist to include many Haring details in the spring collection. Cartoon images adorned tight knit sweaters, while detailed patchwork and Haring's hearts decorated bags and vintage tees.

Even the smallest details of the line didn't go unnoticed: Tinted sunglasses, patchwork included on jeans, metallic boots and heavy rings brought the vintage show to life.

Coach brought back Haring to the New York City streets. These whimsical creations no doubt make the powerhouse a welcomed go-to for Spring 2018.
