NYFW 2017: Taoray Wang debuts dramatic cinched waists and slouchy sleeves for Spring/Summer 2018

Updated

Taoray Wang is putting the ribcage at center stage.

Structured cinched waists created modern hourglass silhouettes at the designer's sophomore Fashion Week runway, upping the drama in an otherwise tastefully muted collection.

Wang didn't stray far from dark tones --black, gray, and navy dominated the color scheme -- although pops of peach and sky blue made appearances in the form of silky tops. But it was two white dresses that most got the crowd murmuring: A deep-V midi-length number, and a suit jacket-turned-mini that had front-row guest Tiffany Trump nodding in approval.

The First Daughter is a noted fan of the designer: She wore a Taoray Wang dress to her father's inauguration in January, and she attended last season's show with mom Marla Maples.

Wang has said that she aims to design for powerful, professional female leaders in business, law, finance and government. It seems particularly fitting that Tiffany, a law student at Georgetown University, would be drawn to such a designer.
