Melania Trump's love for sky-high heels may be killing her feet

Updated

Melania Trump has a shoe collection that probably rivals Carrie Bradshaw's, but her love for heels may be seriously killing her feet.

Former Vogue editor André Leon Talley told Newsweek that the first lady rarely steps out without heels on. In fact, she stays loyal to two styles -- Manolo Blahniks, or the So Kate by Christian Louboutin. Unsurprisingly, these shoes have heel heights between four to four and a half inches. And while we're sure walking in sky-high stilettos is now a cakewalk for Mrs. Trump after years of doing so, Talley is a little concerned.

"As you get older in these shoes, your feet are going to have problems," Talley said. "I am not gonna say Melania is gonna have them soon, but sooner or later she is going have to come down off that high arch."

Talley also hypothesized that the women around President Trump tend to wear them because they've "mastered the art [of doing so] through rigorous discipline of daily exercise and weight loss." Furthermore, "it is a shoe that defies gravity. It is a risk-taking shoe. If you stumble, you will break your ankle."

The Newsweek article goes on to further criticize Melania, as well as first daughter Ivanka, for wearing a type of shoe that isn't something practical or comfortable for a majority of average women to wear all day long.

"To deconstruct why Trump women wear high heels: They are just buying into traditional binary views of male and female," British psychologist Paul Morris told Newsweek.

During her first year in the White House, we've only seen Melania wear flats once so far -- at the annual Easter Egg Roll back in April.

The first lady donned a pale pink sleeveless tea-length dress by Herve Pierre, and matching pointed pink flats. Talley also revealed that Melania picked up 22 pairs of Manolos before leaving for D.C., so it's evident that heels will remain a mainstay in her wardrobe for years to come.

Melania has stayed out of the spotlight in recent weeks. Her last public appearance was in late July at a rally in Ohio, where she rocked her "boldest look yet" -- a colorful pink and textured silhouette from Monique Lhuillier, embellished with yellow, spotted florals.
