This mom's mirror selfie in sexy LBD she had 'no business wearing' is now going viral
Katey Johnson is loving the skin she's in!
Johnson, who runs the blog The Mother Octopus, recently posted a black-and-white photo from a trip with her husband that is now going viral. The 40-year-old mom showed off her physique in a figure-hugging LBD, but the shameless mirror selfie was made even better by the positive message she posted with it.
"This is me in a dress I have no business wearing." Johnson wrote. "I know it's not flattering but I don't want you to say, 'OMG, YOU LOOK GREAT!' I don't want you to say, 'GOOD FOR YOU!' I want you to know why I'm wearing a dress I have no business wearing. Someone could say that I look a little pregnant in it, because of, you know, that part sticking out in the front. I do look a little pregnant. That's fine."
The mother of two went on to explain what happened when she first tried on the sexy number:
"I knew the dress wasn't for my 5'2" body, 160 lb. body, but I felt great in it. I don't know why. I just did. I'm not known to wear form-fitting clothes. At all. But I wanted it, so I bought it. And I was proud of myself for it."
She added: "For 40 years I've stood in the mirror and compared how I look to how I THINK I should look. And it's exhausting. Now, in an ugly world where I have so many other more important things to worry about, I'm hitting that red decline button when the self-doubt calls start pouring in. I don't want to do it anymore. I want to be in the business of loving myself. It's as simple as that."
It looks like everyone heard Katey's message loud and clear -- the Facebook post has been liked over 11,000 times and counting!
"It's so refreshing to hear this. Beating ourselves up is so easy to do and so pointless. I need to be in the same business of feeling great and not caring about anything else," one user wrote.
Another fan commented: "I love this. All of it. ❤️."
And while Johnson admits posting the photo on social media took a lot of courage, she is incredibly proud of herself for doing it.
"I think everyone struggles with body issues, regardless of sex or age. Everyone feels vulnerable when it comes to how they look and how others perceive them," she told Us Weekly. "We're so inundated with images of the ideal body that picturing our less than ideal bodies in a beautiful way has become difficult for a lot of people."
