The pantone color of the year for 2017 encourages new beginnings

Pantone recently released its Color of the Year for 2017 -- and we're back to just one color this year! It's called "Greenery," and -- you guessed it -- a gorgeous shade of green.

A vibrant, bright (but natural!) hue, Greenery is definitely an eye-catching color, but not in an obnoxious way. In fact, the color is described by the Pantone team as fresh, calming, and meant to inspire new beginnings.

In what may be one of the company's first-ever "political" statements, we think it's very possible that the choice of 2017's color changed at some point this year in response to the intense political cycle. In discussions over what color would rule 2017, how could the current climate not come into account?

"Greenery bursts forth in 2017 to provide us with the reassurance we yearn for amid a tumultuous social and political environment. Satisfying our growing desire to rejuvenate and revitalize, Greenery symbolizes the reconnection we seek with nature, one another and a larger purpose," said Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute.

The color is also described as one of nature's neutrals, a peaceful, life-affirming shade.

Announced just before the first real snow fall in New York, it does make us excited for the spring weather that feels oh-so-far away right now. And what's better about spring than new beginnings? We can see this color making quite a statement in 2017.
