Grandson devises insane plan to check in on grandmother after hurricane

A woman in Florida is making headlines after her family devised a brilliant plan to make sure she was safe.

Hurricane Matthew wiped out power for many Floridians, so the Olsen family struggled to get in touch with their 87-year-old grandmother, who lives alone.

"Well, I talked to her on Friday morning, and she had just lost power, and she said, 'This is a nightmare,'" Eric Olsen told ABC News, saying they hadn't heard from his grandmother in a couple of days. ""I was calling the police department, I was calling the sheriff's department, and no one was answering, so I was really worried," he continued.

So, Eric was able to get in touch with a nearby pizza shop. He told them to call his cell phone when they got to her house, and to give her the phone if she answered the door. She did, and he was incredibly relieved.

"Police and fire couldn't do it, but Papa John's got there in 30 minutes and put the cellphone to her ear," he joked to ABC.
