Women may biologically need friends more than men

During times of stress, many people seek solace in the company of others. Now science is saying for women, social comfort is actually a biological need.

Scientists from the University of Calgary studied physical responses in mice to see how males and females fared in the same situations.

Physical stress, like the type experienced during a 20-minute swim, elicited the same reaction from both genders, but social stress was a different story.

For the females, just 16 to 18 hours away from their mates caused them to release the chemical corticosterone, which is produced in stressful situations and decreases the excitability of brain cells.

Basically, the girls didn't want to be away from their friends.

Stress reactions were triggered in the female mice when separated from others, but the males did not have the same result.

This might explain why men can retreat to their man cave, while a woman needs girl time with her squad to feel relaxed.

Ever wonder how much the members of this iconic squad are worth?
