Communities across the country are panicking over the onslaught of evil clown sightings -- but apparently, it isn't stopping people from buying clown costumes for Halloween.

Sales of clown masks are up by 300 percent this year, compared to last year for one costume chain.

Halloween Express told Eye Opener TV: "In the top 10, eight of them are 'evil' clown masks this season, whereas last year, five of the top 10 were 'evil.'"

Smaller costume shops are also confirming the increase in clown costume sales.

Since the first sightings in South Carolina became national news, there have been so many sightings that police have had to intervene. This year, schools and communities are fighting any potential clown incidents by discouraging people from wearing the costumes "to avoid public panic."

Maybe people should consider a witch's outfit. According to the National Retail Federation, it was the top adult costume for Halloween last year.
